macOS · for Allume

Allume Companion

A ⌘K command palette for Allume. Select some cards, press ⌘K, and tidy them up, jump to another board, jot down a todo or open today’s note, without leaving the canvas.

What it does

Arrange cards

Lay the selected cards out in a grid, a row or a column, in their current order, by title or by date. Type “grid 4” or “row by title”.

Same size

Make every selected card Small, Medium or Large in one go.

Jump anywhere

Type part of a board’s name to open it, go back to a board you just visited, or head home to the top of your workspace.

Todos

Any text card that starts with @todo is a todo. Add one with a due date in plain words (“tomorrow”, “Friday”, “Oct 20”), see them all in one list, mark one done with ⌘Return or push it to tomorrow with ⌥Return, and get a reminder on the day.

Daily notes

Today, Yesterday, Tomorrow and This Month open a board for that day or month, laid out as a calendar.

Projects

Keep project boards in Todo, Doing and Done, and move them along with one command.

Undo

Changed your mind about an arrangement? Undo puts the cards back where they were.

How it works

Press ⌘K in Allume and the panel drops down from the top of its window. Commands, boards and todos are searched together as you type; ↑↓ to pick, Return to run, Esc to close. The rest of the time it waits in the menu bar. It works with Allume in full screen and in Split View too.

Everything goes through Allume’s own command-line tool, and every command it runs is shown in the panel. To see which cards are selected it copies them (⌘C) and puts your clipboard back a few milliseconds later, marked so clipboard managers don’t record it as a new copy.

It makes no network requests, and everything stays on your Mac. What it creates goes on one board of its own, workspace-Companion, and it asks before making it.

Get started

  1. Download the latest release, unzip it and drag AllumeCompanion.app into Applications.
  2. Open it and allow Accessibility access when macOS asks (and notifications, for todo reminders).
  3. In Allume, go to Settings → CLI, install the command-line tool and allow it to write.
  4. When the four rows in the companion’s Settings → Allume are green, press ⌘K in Allume.

Good to know

Tested with Allume 4.0.2

It relies on a few things Allume doesn’t document, so an Allume update can break parts of it. Settings → Allume shows the version it was tested with next to yours, and Copy Diagnostics in the menu bar gathers what a bug report needs.
